Why they're good, in their customers' words

5.02 reviews
Backdoor Botanics is the best most high end anal lube and sex serum that I have ever used. It’s skincare and regenerative properties are unmatched by it’s competitors and the business’s mission statement and brand goals are exactly what local businesses should be aspiring to. Highly recommend.

They create products that are not out there to just mass produce, but create better experiences for people with their customers health in mind. They also host lube wrestling tournaments that bring the LGBT community together in was not done before.

Duncan Stevens

I'm Duncan Stevens, a South African entrepreneur working at the intersection of strategy, design, product development and sexual wellness.

My background spans building brands, developing products and helping businesses turn ideas into something people can understand, use and value. I've worked across strategy, communications and research & industrial design, and that experience shapes how I approach Backdoor Botanics: start with a real human need, understand the problem properly, and build something worth using.

The idea behind Backdoor Botanics grew from a simple frustration: intimate health products often seem to lag behind what we expect from the rest of personal care. Sexual health is too often discussed only when something goes wrong, while pleasure, comfort and the everyday experience of our bodies get overlooked.

I wanted to help change that. Backdoor Botanics brings a more considered, science-led approach to intimate care, with products designed around real bodies and real sexual experiences. It also gives me a way to challenge the awkwardness and stigma that still surround conversations about anal health and pleasure.

For me, this is about making better products and better information available, and treating intimate health as a normal part of looking after ourselves.

The business

Backdoor Botanics

Backdoor Botanics is a queer-owned sexual wellness brand developing science-led products for intimate health, comfort and pleasure.

We believe sexual health should understand sexuality. That means moving beyond a narrow focus on problems and prevention to recognise the role that pleasure, the body and everyday care play in sexual wellbeing.

Our first product is a water-based anal lubricant developed with a focus on glide, lasting performance and intimate skin comfort. The Regenerative Series combines peptides, sodium hyaluronate and botanical ingredients in a pH-balanced, osmotically gentle formulation. It is designed to support a more considered approach to intimate care, without unnecessary fragrance or a long list of ingredients that serve little purpose.

But Backdoor Botanics is about more than what goes into a bottle. We want people to have better information about their bodies, understand the products they use and feel more confident making decisions about their sexual health.

We bring together product development, science, design and education to challenge the idea that intimate wellness should be treated as an afterthought. Our approach is practical, inclusive and grounded in the belief that looking after intimate health should be as normal as caring for the rest of the body.

Created in South Africa, Backdoor Botanics is building a distinctive approach to sexual wellness that puts real bodies, informed choices and pleasure in the same conversation.
