The Pause Room puts handmade ceramics, home fragrance and body care on the same shelves, so a gift for someone's home can be found in one visit. Much of what it sells is made locally, and the shop has its own PAUSE range of body and home products.
Michelle and Kristoph
Michelle and Kristoph run The Pause Room together. Michelle founded Urchin Art in 1998, and its handmade stoneware fills much of the shop. Kristoph is a designer. Between them they also make the PAUSE range of body and home products that sits beside the ceramics.
The Pause Room
The Pause Room is a gift and collectables shop in Gardens Shopping Centre, on the corner of Mill and Buitenkant Streets in Cape Town. It sells things for your home, your body and your soul, much of it made in South Africa.
Ceramics are a big part of the range. There are mugs, including quirky and SA-fari mugs, serving pieces, vases and planters, and decorative collections such as Evil Eye, Fynbos and Snow in the Highveld. The shop is home to the handmade stoneware of Urchin Art, made in Cape Town.
Next to the ceramics is the PAUSE range. The bath and body side has lotions and creams, soaps, perfumes (White Cashmere is the signature fragrance) and a full aromatherapy collection of oils and burners. For the home there are diffusers, car perfume, room sprays fragrance oils and candles. The shop also stocks decor, gifts, and fashion, kids' and pet items.
