Matthias trained under master leather crafters in Germany and has more than 13 years in leather and design. Each bag is cut, stitched and finished by hand in his own studio.
Matthias Matthee
Matthias Matthee is a South African-born designer with more than 13 years in leather and design. He trained under master leather crafters in Germany and works as a leather artisan, designer and craftsman across several disciplines, from bespoke leather décor to custom fashion accessories, developed and produced in his own studio.
In September 2022 he designed a collection of ten one-of-a-kind outfits made entirely from leather for Paris Fashion Week, in collaboration with the technology company CAW Studio.
Friuli Leather Design Atelier
Friuli Leather Design Atelier is Matthias Matthee's leather studio in Cape Town. It makes handbags, totes and fashion accessories, cut, stitched and finished by hand in the studio.
The bags are made from leather with canvas straps and a stitched leather label. Shoppers, totes and small shoulder pouches are part of the range.
Matthias also takes on custom work. He develops and produces fashion accessories to a client's design, and makes bespoke leather décor for homes and spaces. His collaborations include the leather outfits made for Paris Fashion Week 2022 with CAW Studio.
